Meet Chef Steven Crowe

My story starts way back when I was just 18 years old when my mother and father asked me what I wanted to do for a profession and I told them that I wanted to be a Chef. Their response was “Why would you want to do that?” I told them, “I want to learn how to cook and create healthy tasting food.”

Well, the years went by and I did nothing about my passion for food. Fast forward 27 years and while I was working as a Correctional Officer at York County Prison, I met my wife, Judy. For almost a year I contemplated whether I should go back to school to further my education and pursue my love for food. With encouragement from Judy and my family, I enrolled at Yorktowne Business Institute to study Culinary Arts.

My first day was February 2, 2002. After almost 2 ½ years, I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts. While I was in school we were required to do a 240-hour internship, which taught me that I did not want to work in a restaurant the rest of my culinary career, but pursue my passion to provide clients the opportunity to connect with family and friends while enjoying healthy and affordable meals.

I had not told my parents that I had gone back to school. You should have seen the look on their faces when I gave them the graduation announcement . . . it was Priceless! On September 9, 2011 I officially retired from the York County Prison after a 23 year career and on September 25, 2011, I opened Crowe’s Traveling Cuisine ~ Your Solution to “What’s for Dinner?”

Today Chef Steven Crowe enhances the dining experience, events, and celebrations with unique presentations while creating Healthy Meals > Healthy Lifestyles > Healthy Communities!
